Welcome to the official website of Maciej S. Kumosa —where cutting-edge research, scholarly outreach, art, literary work, and conservation converge.

ABOUT ME

I am Maciej S. Kumosa — a materials scientist, engineer, and lifelong explorer of scientific frontiers, the human experience, and the natural world. For the past decade, I led the National Science Foundation Center for Novel High Voltage/Temperature Materials and Structures (the HVT Center), pursuing research on materials for extreme environments and helping advance next-generation high-voltage and high-temperature technologies.

Beyond science, I am the author of my autobiography Plagues and Miracles, President of Miracle Endeavors, LLC, and creator-host of an upcoming podcast devoted to stories, ideas, discovery, and the quiet connections between science, nature, and human experience. Welcome—I invite you to explore my journey, work, and passions.

My Book:

Plagues
and Miracles

Spanning Soviet-style communism, the halls of Cambridge, and the American Rockies, this memoir captures a journey of survival and transformation across three different worlds. It follows the escape from Eastern Europe to the forefront of U.S. engineering, revealing the "plagues" of systemic obstacles and the "miracles" of human ingenuity. By blending history with a candid look at the realities of Western academia, it offers a powerful roadmap for overcoming adversity and succeeding in any system.

HVT Center
& Research

The HVT Center (Novel High-Voltage / High-Temperature Materials & Structures) was established with a bold goal: to research, design and validate advanced materials and structural solutions capable of performing reliably under the most extreme electrical, thermal, mechanical and environmental conditions. Under my leadership, the Center merges academic rigor, industry collaboration and government support to drive innovations that can reshape power transmission, aerospace, and other critical infrastructure domains.

Podcast

Deeply rooted in the themes of the upcoming memoir, this video podcast explores the recurring forces of collapse and renewal that shape both human lives and civilizations. Moving beyond personal narrative, it examines the intersections of history, institutional systems, and scientific progress to understand how societies confront their own "plagues" and discover transformative "miracles." Eschewing modern polarization, each episode offers long-form reflection on ideology, power, and the quiet impact of moral courage.

Launching in Spring 2026, it serves as a thoughtful search for the enduring patterns that lead us toward renewal.
